Hurricane Beryl has made landfall in Jamaica as a Category 4 storm. Yesterday, it devastated several Caribbean islands, including Grenada.
Prime Minister Dickson Mitchell said without power and roads impassable, the death toll could rise, according to the Associated Press.
A hurricane warning remains in effect for Jamaica, the Cayman Islands and the coast of Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula from Costa Mayo Harbor to Cancun.
Beryl is the most powerful hurricane that forms early in the Atlantic hurricane season, driven by warm ocean waters.
Jamaica has declared a state of emergency and imposed a curfew between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
