PlayStation VR2 headset owners are one step closer to using a virtual reality device on their PC. According to a certification spotted by VR enthusiast Brad Lynch, Sony has developed a PSVR 2 “adapter” that provides PC support for the PS5-exclusive device.
Sony said it is bringing PC support for PSVR 2 in February, targeting an unspecified 2024 release date, but the company has not previously mentioned what form that support will take. With adapter certification submitted to South Korean regulators on March 27, Sony appears to be on track to easily meet its self-imposed deadline for PC support.
There is currently no other information about this mysterious adapter, including its price, appearance, or designated release date. We’ve reached out to Sony for clarification and will update this story if we hear back.
Still, its existence should be welcome news to the modding community, which has been trying to get PSVR 2 to work on PC gaming rigs since its launch in 2023. The PS5’s price of $499.99 is even higher.
Enabling PC support should remove one of the biggest barriers keeping people away from the device. The news comes as Sony grapples with declining interest, reportedly suspending production of its PSVR 2 headset due to a backlog of unsold inventory.
