T move announced on Tuesday plans to acquire most of US mobile phone, The deal, worth $4.4 billion, includes stores, some of the wireless carrier’s spectrum and its customers. The deal includes cash and up to $2 billion in debt.
US Cellular shares rose more than 8% in premarket trading. T-Mobile shares were flat.
T-Mobile said it will use US Cellular wireless spectrum to improve coverage in rural areas while also providing better connectivity to US Cellular customers across the United States. The company said it will allow US Cellular customers to keep their current plans or switch to T-Mobile plans.
US Cellular will still own some of its wireless spectrum and towers and will lease space on at least 2,100 additional towers from T-Mobile. The companies expect the transaction to close in mid-2025.
