After years of testing, we’ve developed a methodology that helps us evaluate and score every piece of fitness equipment we test. We use this data to help us recommend the best devices for every type of person. We judge fitness equipment based on the following criteria:
feature: We look at the types of features these devices offer, how advanced or simple those features are, and whether the machines can connect to built-in or third-party apps, smartwatches, and gadgets. A well-functioning machine should ideally have a built-in touchscreen and be able to easily connect to Wi-Fi and compatible apps. No matter how complex it is, it should be intuitive and easy to use for most users.
software: Many of these machines have built-in programs, so we wanted to see how easy they were to use and any challenges we encountered accessing them or connecting to external compatible devices.
Function: When testing, we determine if the machine is working as promised or is malfunctioning. Additionally, we observe whether it is intuitive to use, whether it has all the bells and whistles or is minimalist. For example, we know that some users want a simple machine without any advanced technology, but the device should still work as promised. If the machine is more modern, it should be easy for anyone to use, whether you are a technical expert or someone who is not very familiar with the latest innovations.
assembly: We know people want to know how easy it is to assemble exercise equipment and approximately how long it takes, so we documented that. Fitness equipment tends to be heavy, and depending on the machine, moving it to your home and putting it together can be a two-person job. We’ll also look at whether they have the option of white glove delivery and whether it’s free or requires a fee.
Warranty: It’s important to know your device’s warranty information in case you encounter any problems with your device and need to replace it. Since these are bulk purchases, you should feel comfortable knowing you are purchasing a quality product. If an item needs to be replaced, the period for replacement or refund should be clearly stated. The length of your warranty depends on the type of machine you have, what the warranty covers, and what the manufacturer is willing to cover.
