While Bluetooth earbuds (or headphones) work with any compatible hardware, having Bluetooth earbuds (or headphones) built specifically for your setup can unlock some nifty features. If you own a Samsung phone, you can easily choose among the best wireless headphones on the market. There’s the Galaxy Buds Pro 2 equivalent of AirPods, or a plethora of third-party options that are compatible with Android. Many of them also support aptX or LDAC audio codecs, which provide better audio quality.
Here at CNET, we’ve reviewed many options, and here’s our shortlist of the best wireless earbuds and headphones to pair with your Samsung phone.
What are the best earbuds and headphones for Samsung smartphones right now?
What are the best earbuds for Samsung devices? If you’re looking for earbuds to fit your Galaxy smartphone or tablet, the answer is simple: the Galaxy Buds 2 Pros are arguably the best earbuds you can buy for your Galaxy device. Not only do they sound very good, they have good noise cancellation and are great for making phone calls. They also come with some special extras for owners of Galaxy devices, including spatial audio and hands-free Bixby.
As for full-size headphones that work well with Samsung mobile devices, we like the Sony WH-1000XM5, a CNET Editors’ Choice winner. There are many other headphones for Samsung owners out there, a few of which I’ve included on this list.

Galaxy Buds 2 Pro offer improved noise cancellation, very good sound and voice call performance, and if you’re a Galaxy device owner with the right settings, support for high-resolution wireless audio streaming. That said, their biggest upgrades may be their new design and smaller size, which makes them fit better in more ears. They are also completely waterproof.

Earfun has released a line of wireless headphones over the past few years, and they all have one important similarity: they’re all very good value for money, and they’re often on sale, so they’re a good value. The company’s new 2023 Earfun Air Pro 3 earbuds use the latest Qualcomm QCC3071 system-on-chip with aptX Adaptive for Android and other devices that support the new LE audio standard and LC3 audio codec, which is better than the SBC codec. They also support AAC for Apple devices.
Lightweight and comfortable to wear, they’re not a huge upgrade over the Earfun Air S, but they’re better. They feature slightly larger fleece composite drivers (11mm vs. 10mm), slightly improved noise cancellation, and longer battery life (up to 7 hours with noise cancellation, according to Earfun).
In short, the Earfun Air 3 delivers strong performance at a moderate price, with strong bass, good clarity, and a relatively wide soundstage. They also come with a host of features, including a wireless charging case and “multi-device” connectivity. (I can pair them with two devices at the same time, but I have to pause the music on one device and hit play on the other to switch audio.) They are IPX5 splash-proof and work well as one device. Works well (although not particularly well).

When you have a product that a lot of people like, change is risky. Such is the case with the SonyWH-1000XM5, the fifth generation of the 1000X series of headphones, which were first released in 2016 as the MDR-1000X Wireless and have become more and more popular with each generation’s improvements. Sony has made a few tweaks to the design over the years, but nothing quite as striking as what it did with the WH-1000XM5. Aside from the higher $400 price tag, most of the changes are good, with Sony making some notable improvements in voice call performance as well as better noise cancellation and more refined sound.

If you can’t afford the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, the standard Galaxy Buds 2 are a good choice. Released in 2021, they don’t sound as good as the new Galaxy Buds 2 Pro, and the noise cancellation is pretty poor. They do offer decent sound and noise cancellation and very good voice calling performance, and are often discounted to around $100.
The Buds 2, like the earlier Buds Plus, only feature IPX2 sweat resistance. This means they should be suitable for light exercise, but it’s best to avoid wearing them in heavy rain.

JBL has released some decent true wireless headphones over the years, but nothing that really got me too excited. That’s finally changing with the arrival of the new Live Pro 2 and Live Free 2 headsets from Samsung’s own brand. Both sets of headphones (the Live Pro 2 has an ear stem, while the Live Free 2 has a pill-shaped design) offer a comfortable fit as well as strong noise cancellation, very good sound quality, and voice call performance. They also come with a range of great features, including multi-point Bluetooth pairing, IPX5 water resistance and wireless charging.
The Live Pro 2 and Live Free 2 feature the same 11mm drivers, six microphones, oval tubes and oval silicon tips. Design aside, the biggest difference between the two is battery life: the stickless Live Free 2 is rated for up to 7 hours, while the Live Pro 2 is rated for 10 hours. The Live Pro 2 is available in four colors.

Sennheiser’s previous generation Momentum Wireless headphones have always had a rather unique look, part retro, part modern, and stood out with the exposed metal on the headband. For better or worse, that’s all gone now, and the new Momentum 4 Wireless, Sennheiser’s flagship noise-canceling headphones, look more understated and more like some of their competitors.
Momentum 4 Wireless is better than Momentum 3 Wireless in every way. The biggest improvements are noise cancellation and voice calling performance, as well as excellent battery life – up to 60 hours at moderate volume. There’s also a transparency mode that allows for ambient sounds, and users can create custom sound profiles in the Smart Control app for iOS and Android using built-in equalizers, sound modes, and a new sound personalization feature that “evaluates the user’s Listening preferences and tailor the listening experience to their tastes.
Sennheiser says the Momentum 4 Wireless with 42mm drivers delivers “best-in-class” sound, but that’s debatable. I would say the sound quality is on par with other models in this price range. They sound excellent, with the necessary clear, punchy bass, wide soundstage (which sounds quite open), and smooth treble to bring out some of the finer details in well-recorded tracks. They were happy to listen.

Sony’s improved entry-level noise-canceling headphones, the CH-720N, feel a bit plasticky and cheap, but are lightweight and comfortable. I thought they sounded mediocre, but I was surprised. No, they don’t sound as good as the WH-1000XM5. They sound more premium than they look and feel, and their overall performance is a big improvement over their predecessor, the CH-710N. Are they worth $150? Maybe – maybe not. The good news is that, like the CH-710N and WH-XB910 before them, these products should see some nice discounts in the near future.

The QuietComfort 45 is nearly identical in design to its predecessor, the QuietComfort QC35 II, which many consider to be one of the most comfortable over-ear headphones – if not the this Most comfortable. It has the same drivers and the buttons are in the same location.
There are some small but noteworthy changes. First, we’re glad they have a USB-C charging port instead of Micro-USB. Secondly, the microphone configuration is different. Not only have the microphones changed, but there’s now an additional external microphone for voice pickup, meaning the QC45 has a total of six microphones, four of which are beamformed and used for speech. By comparison, the QC35 II has four, two of which are for voice. (Bose Noise Canceling Headphones 700 also have a total of six microphones.)
These headphones are great for making phone calls. They are similar to the Bose Headphones 700 in this respect. They also feature best-in-class noise cancellation and multipoint Bluetooth pairing, so you can connect them to your computer and phone at the same time. Read our full review of the QuietComfort 45.

Featuring great sound quality, improved noise cancellation and voice calling capabilities, and a smaller, more refined design, the Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 3 are one of the best new true wireless headphones of 2022. Overall, the SonyWF-1000XM4 is a great value for money. They include stabilizing fins to keep the earbuds more securely in your ears.

Bose’s second-generation QuietComfort Earbuds 2 are not only about 30% smaller than their predecessors, but the casing is also about 40% smaller, making them truly pocket-friendly. They feature best-in-class noise cancellation and improved sound, thanks to Bose’s new CustomTune sound calibration system, which customizes the sound to your ears. Voice call performance is also significantly better than the original QuietComfort earbuds.
Another big change is the earbuds. Bose ditched the one-piece StayEar wingtips in favor of a two-piece Fit Kit system with separate ear tips and “stabilization straps” available in three sizes. You’ll have more flexibility to achieve a secure fit and tight seal.

No matter what you think about the bean-shaped design of the Samsung Galaxy Buds Live, it is innovative. Like the standard AirPods 3, they have an open design that eliminates the need to insert earbuds into the ears, and are very comfortable, fitting my ears better than the AirPods. That said, they won’t fit everyone’s ears equally well. These wireless earphones are very discreet and sit flush with your ears, with no little white tubes sticking out of them.
They offer good sound quality and work as a headset for phone calls, and have good background noise reduction so callers can hear you clearly even if you’re in a noisy environment. While they have active noise cancellation, the noise cancellation is milder than that found in earbuds with a sound-isolating design. In other words, buy them for their design and sound, not their noisy features.
