In a surprise move, the Supreme Court framed the upcoming 2024 presidential election as the choice for America’s first important king. Basically a president with the power of a king. Democracy is only in name.
It doesn’t help that this is how democracies die, not under the dark rule of a sketchy British overlord in The Washington Post. But through the weaponization of the law. One need look no further than Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, from whom the US Republican Party took its cues on how to overthrow democracy without resorting to violent revolution through a twelve-point plan to attack democracy and consolidate power.
This is called soft fascism or soft authoritarianism. This is done by changing the law. This is done by taking over the media.
Both of these things are happening now and have been happening for some time. Our two legacy newspapers have evolved into an oligarchy promoting the 1%, and many local newspapers and television have been taken over by wealthy conservatives. This is not an indictment, or even a reflection, on the excellent journalists at these institutions, but simply on the leadership. (Please stop yelling at reporters, taking out your righteous wrath on their overlords, and stop supporting their businesses.)
The U.S. Supreme Court, with its conservative majority, is incredibly corrupt and appears to have ceded the power of a king to the president. This was contrary to the founders’ intentions, as demonstrated by the Revolutionary War against the reign of King George III. George Washington did not rule as a king.
But if the next election is about appointing a president who will act as a king or have the power of a king – the courts just ruled that President Biden now has the power of a king because they have to know that Joe Biden will never abuse that power (he team may need to reconsider this) – then everyone must choose carefully.
America’s first king:
1. There must be a campaign to use the power of the King to re-establish the separation of powers and to use the power of the King to abolish them.
2. The power of the King must be used to root out corruption on the Supreme Court, remove all 6 Republicans, and appoint 6 impartial men with a strong record of loyalty to liberty and independence, the courage to hold those in power accountable, and Believe in justice.
May I boldly suggest that former President Barack Obama become one of them? Yes, I probably will.
Fani Willis should be added to the list as a potential Supreme Court justice appointed by King Biden, especially since conservatives confirmed not one, but two alleged sexual predators to the country’s highest court , and then they started taking away women’s rights. Fannie Willis is a crusader for democracy who is not afraid to take on the powerful. Given that what America is facing is an authoritarian overtaking of democracy and its transformation into autocracy, I don’t really care about Willis’s inappropriate and stupid but consensual stuff.
There are many more to choose from, but these two offer the two qualities most necessary to save our democratic republic: the highest integrity, in the form of Obama, and the steely will needed to right this country, in the form of Willis. Alvin Bragg should be added to the list of people willing to hold power accountable.
Congressional candidates, because people need to vote all the way, including in local elections, which is where people who end up with a lot of power start:
1. Must add to their platform a pledge to immediately pass ethics rules and term limits for SCOTUS and add two or three seats to the court.
2. If already elected, they should introduce a constitutional amendment to overturn this ruling.
If you elect the first king, that means this is last real election Unless you choose wisely.
In fact, I’m afraid the time has come for people like me to be reluctant to spread fear: This will be the last real election in the United States of America unless people get their friends and family to vote in record numbers. Candidates for power.
It’s telling that so much of our media is calling for President Biden to step down because of his lack of energy in the debates, while they are not even calling for former President Trump to withdraw from his candidacy for the same office. Rebelling against his own country, determined to become a convicted rapist and liar, and refusing to say he would respect the results of the upcoming election.
Acquisitions have been ongoing, but we are now in the final stages. Five alarm stages. Vote like our lives depend on it, because for too many people, they do. Anyone who displeases Donald Trump is subject to his Henry VIII-like whims.
