It’s time to return to the swamp Shrek 5DreamWorks’ upcoming Legacy sequel will take audiences back to a place far, far away.
The film has been officially confirmed online by the studio, which revealed the original Shrek Starring Mike Myers, Cameron Diaz and Eddie Murphy will reprise their roles as the film’s heroic trio. Additionally, the movie is scheduled to be released on July 1, 2026. Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, the feline hero played by Antonio Banderas sets out to visit his friends in a distant kingdom. Variety provided more details, including that Banderas has yet to be confirmed Shrek 5— but with the post-credits tag, Cat (and Harvey Gillen’s scene-stealing Perito) is expected to join the new adventure.

Eddie Murphy previously teased the news while promoting his work beverly hills cop Netflix sequel, told Collider, “We started doing [Shrek 5] A few months ago… I recorded the first act, which we’re going to do this year, and we’re going to finish it. Shrek Coming soon, Donkey will get his own movie. We also want to be donkeys. So we’re going to make a Shrekwe are making a donkey [movie]”.
