You can say goodbye to the Library tab in Google Photos, because Google is launching a new destination called Collections that should make “finding content easier than ever.” Collections store all your albums in one place, such as your private albums and albums other people have shared with you, as well as new folders for People & Pets, Files, and Places.
The Collection view, which replaces the existing Library tab but retains the same bookshelf icon, is currently rolling out to all Android and iOS Google Photos users, but it may take a few weeks to roll out across all devices.
Users can enter the “Collection” tab and click “Albums” to switch between different views, such as “All”, “Shared with me” and “My Albums”. Folders for “Favorites” and “Trash” will appear at the top, while Google says the remaining two tiles “may rotate based on the items you navigate to most.” Locked folders will no longer be suggested to users at the top of the Collections view after a placement complaint.
The Utilities folder will be completely deleted, but the tools underneath it will simply be relocated. For example, the option to create a locked folder can now be found by scrolling to the bottom of the collection. Options for importing images and creating creations like albums, collages, and highlight videos can be found by clicking the “+” symbol, while actions like freeing up space on your device and managing frames now require you to click on your Google Photos account profile.
