Spanish police are searching for a man suspected of killing an 11-year-old boy with a sharp weapon on the football field, according to local media.
The victim was reportedly playing with other children when he was attacked by a man wearing a turban.
The attack occurred on Sunday morning in Mocejon, near the city of Toledo in central Spain.
The suspect, reportedly a young man around 18 years old, fled the scene. A massive manhunt is underway.
Broadcaster RTVE said government sources confirmed the attack occurred at around 10:00 local time. More than a dozen patrols were said to be searching for the suspects, and a helicopter also joined the search.
According to Spanish media reports, the small town of Mocejón, with a population of about 5,000 people, will declare three days of official mourning.
Milagros Tolon, representative of the Spanish government in the Castile-La Mancha region, posted on Murdered after being attacked with a sharp object.
“The National Guard has deployed an extensive operation to apprehend the perpetrators.
“I send all my love to the family and friends of the deceased and the people of Mosehun.”
Emiliano Garcia-Page, president of the Castile-La Mancha region, said he was shocked by the events in Mocejon and hoped the perpetrators would be found soon.
“These circumstances are unacceptable and must be punished justly.”
