Last week, the Edmonton Oilers became the 211th team in NHL history to fall behind 3-0 in a series, and now they’re one win away from becoming the fifth team to do so.
The Oilers beat the Florida Panthers 5-1 on Friday to take a three-game series deficit and become the 10th team in NHL history to reach a Game 7.
After nearly 20,000 fans loudly sang the Canadian national anthem, Warren Foegele somehow made them scream even louder, scoring a goal to give the Oilers a 1-0 lead. As for Florida, they only had two field goals in the first quarter, one of which came from 170 feet away, so this was essentially an accident. It was the fewest shots they had taken all year.

Edmonton got off to a great start in the second period when Adam Henrique scored on a two-on-one on a long ice pass just 46 seconds into the game. Florida State’s Alexander Barkov thought he had the answer 10 seconds later, but Edmonton successfully challenged the Panthers for offside and put the Oilers up 2-0.
With 1:40 left in the game, Zach Hyman lit up the game to make it 3-0. The Oilers scored two straight points in the middle, although Florida outscored them 11-4.
Florida got on the board early in the third period with a goal from Barkov (for real this time), but it was too little, too late, and the Oilers not only missed one, but two. Empty net.
The crowd then chanted “We want the trophy”.
Edmonton has outscored Florida 18-5 over its past three games – four points to Florida’s 11 in the first three games.
This is the third time the Stanley Cup has gone to Game 7 with a team leading 3-0, and the first time since 1945 – the Toronto Maple Leafs won twice, completing a comeback in 1942 and then saving It took three years for them to get over the embarrassment.

For the first time since the Los Angeles Kings reversed a 3-0 run in the league in the first round of the 2014 playoffs, they won Game 7 and ultimately captured the trophy, winning two more Game 7s in the process .
The last team in the four major conferences to enter Game 7 after trailing 0-3 was last year’s Boston Celtics – they lost to the eighth-seeded Miami Heat in the Eastern Conference Finals, but were They got their revenge earlier in the week, earning their first NBA championship win since 2008. Only the 2004 Boston Red Sox have completed an MLB comeback—the 2020 Houston Astros nearly joined them, but lost to Tampa Bay in Game 7 of the ALCS Rays.

Game 7 of this series will return to Sunrise, Florida on Monday night, and just about everyone will be in full-blown panic.
A win would be the Oilers’ first Cup since 1990 and Canada’s first since 1993.
It also marks the second consecutive year the Panthers have lost in the finals after losing to the Vegas Golden Knights last year.
