Irvine police shot a man who allegedly crashed his vehicle into a home and another man was found dead, authorities said Monday.
The Irvine Police Department posted on Facebook that officers responded to a home near the intersection of Whisling Swan and Wetstone in the Woodbridge housing development around 2:15 a.m. Monday. Authorities told KABC News that a driver crashed a Honda Odyssey into the home and someone inside called 911.
When Irvine police arrived, they found the body of a man inside the home, the department said. Police later confirmed the deceased was a resident of the home, but gave no details about the cause of death or the circumstances surrounding it, other than calling the death a homicide in a Facebook post.
About an hour later, police located a possible suspect at West Yale Loop and Stony Brook South, about a quarter-mile from the crash site. Police shot the man, but it was unclear what caused the shooting, according to authorities. No details about the encounter were released.
Police told the news station the suspect was taken to a local hospital in unknown condition and a knife was found at the scene. Authorities said they believe the two incidents are related and the investigation is ongoing.
