“The View” co-host quickly jumped in to clarify that author and former attorney John Grisham was not talking about assassinating a Supreme Court justice during his recent guest appearance on the show.
“I wrote a great book called ‘The Pelican Brief,’ in which two Supreme Court justices were assassinated, and I thought about writing it again!” Grisham told ABC’s “The View” Wednesday Zhong said when he was a guest, causing the audience to laugh.
“No no no no!” co-host Joy Behar quickly responded.
“Write a second one!” Goldberg clarified along with the other hosts. “He’s talking about writing a part two!”

Grisham then told the audience: “This is all fiction. Don’t feel bad.”
“It’s just fiction,” Behar said, echoing his phrasing. “It’s just a made-up story.”
Grisham appeared on the show to promote his latest book, “Ghosts of the Camino,” an audiobook version of which is read by “The View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg. Behar asked the author what he thought of the current conservative-majority Supreme Court and whether he would write a book or movie about the court’s current controversies.
“The courts have never looked so bad,” Grisham said of the real-life Supreme Court. “In my lifetime, some of the rulings, the ethical challenges, things started going downhill in 2000 when the five Republicans on the court chose to elect the president, it was political, Bush versus Gore, From that point on, everything really started to go downhill.
After arguing that the Supreme Court gets worse with every term, Grisham suggested, “So I don’t have a solution because you can’t get rid of them. The solution is, let them all retire at 75. Every federal judge should Retired at 75.

Earlier in the episode, First Lady Jill Biden, President Joe Biden’s wife, laid out a dystopian vision of America if Trump were re-elected president and managed to appoint another Supreme Court justice.
“We can’t take things for granted,” she warned. “For God’s sake, think about the Supreme Court. Talk about things getting worse? Can you imagine if we put more Republicans on the Supreme Court? No! We will lose all our rights!
