back 20-something Bernice Ross scrapes ‘every dime’ together by checking out groceries to pay for college [she] “Must” pay 20% down payment for her first apartment.
“The woman who showed me the apartment was wearing ripped jeans and her business card said ‘Million Dollar Club.’ I thought, ‘If she can sell a million dollars in real estate, maybe I can sell one or two. apartment.
Thus began Ross’s real estate career, first as an agent selling condos and, over time, as a trainer and author—not to mention a longtime Inman contributor.
Now, Rose is bringing her “if you build it, they will come” philosophy and her passion for working with women into new endeavors: website The company is dedicated to helping women become first homeowners and then ultimately wealth creators.
Create female-focused content resources
On her website, Real Estate Wealth for Women, Rose shares hours of video interviews and written resources on everything from buying your first home to saving for retirement. The website offers a free version for the public and a paid subscription version.
Ross said one of her biggest passions is helping women, whether as clients or real estate professionals. She organizes the annual Conference of Prominent Women in Real Estate and writes much of her content about women’s issues.
In part, the impetus for creating a content platform aimed at connecting women to the potential of real estate investing came from Rose’s real-life experience of seeing friends and neighbors struggling financially.
“I live in a 55-and-over community and they keep raising the dues here,” she said. “I watched women’s money get eroded by inflation. I watched their 401(k)s get wiped out in the stock market. I wanted to provide a different path to solving the financial challenges women face.
Who does the website serve?
Ross said the fundamental purpose of the website is to help more women become homeowners. These home buying materials are free and include resources on buying vs. renting, mortgages, and down payment assistance programs.
The paid portion of the website provides a wide range of resources for current and potential real estate investors, an audience Rose has worked with throughout her career.
“When I entered the industry in my 20s, my first clients were investment clients,” she said. “Then the market went down and you couldn’t get financing. I did cut my teeth in the investment business and then started working in luxury real estate.
Rose’s focus on real estate investing comes in part from her experience in the stock market. “My brother and I lost a lot of money in the dot-com bust, so I wanted to show real estate agents and consumers how to use real estate to fund their children’s schools, create funds for retirement, and leave a legacy for their children. “
How is this website different?
While there are already real estate investing resources online, the education component and female perspective are strong differentiators for Ross.
“When I look at women, I see a lot of men [real estate investors], almost everyone is promoting a product. In terms of education, that’s me. Since I was 5 years old, I wanted to be a teacher.
The premium membership tier for investors costs $20 per month or $200 per year and provides investment-oriented content and a “community of like-minded investors.”
Ross sees premium membership as an ideal training resource for individuals and investment groups. Her goal is to provide education rather than promote specific investments. “This is a matter between you, your CPA and your legal counsel,” she said.
Topics range from syndication to investment types, retirement real estate banking, home hacks, creating generational wealth and content specifically for real estate professionals. Topic experts include tax strategist David Perez, Amy Chorew on financial health and Kurt Carlton on investor trends.
The goal of Ross’ website is to introduce “incredible resource” experts and make their work accessible to a wider audience for real estate professionals, their clients, and anyone who wants to make smarter decisions about money and real estate. People provide a comprehensive rabbit hole.
