Sen. Tim Scott’s (R-SC) lies about Biden and crime were embarrassingly fact-checked on national television.
Scott’s full interview video:
ABC’s transcript of this week:
Scott: You know, Jon, that’s it. We – we trust, believe and respect the Supreme Court’s decision. Jon, what we need to focus on is the violence we are seeing in this country. Under Joe Biden’s leadership, we’ve seen the largest increase in violent crime in my lifetime. So focusing on crime reduction means four more years of Donald Trump. Under Donald Trump, we actually respect law enforcement.
Under Joe Biden, we’ve seen a movement to defund the police, leaving communities like the one where I grew up blighted and ravaged by a wave of violent crime not seen in five years.
KARL: In fact, as a senator, I – as you probably know, the latest statistics on violent crime and murder rates, the numbers actually went down last year. But let me return to the question about the Supreme Court decision.
Tim Scott’s 2 Big Lies
Tim Scott told two huge lies on ABC’s “This Week.” The first lie is about crime.
According to the FBI’s Quarterly Crime Statistics Report, “The January-March 2024 Quarterly Uniform Crime Report (Q1) provides an initial look at crime trends from January to March 2024 compared to January to March 2023.” A comparison of data from January 2023 to March 2024 from agencies that voluntarily submitted data for at least two or more common months found that reported violent crime dropped 15.2%. Murders fell 26.4%, rapes fell 25.7%, robberies fell 17.8% and aggravated assaults fell 12.5%. Reported property crimes also dropped 15.1%.
The second lie is about defunding the police.
Just 13 days ago, House Republicans were trying to cut law enforcement funding.
Republicans have repeatedly tried to cut law enforcement funding.
As president, Trump’s budgets often recommended cutting police funding.
We all know why Tim Scott says things he knows are untrue. Senator Scott wants to be Trump’s running mate, but it seems all he has to do is find new ways to embarrass himself.
