Trump undermined his own campaign’s criticism of Kamala Harris’ choice of vice president by claiming that the choice of running mate doesn’t matter.
Eli Stokols said on MSNBC, “The Trump team is studying these people, looking at documents, trying to figure out who she might choose. They are ready to attack anyone. But I think, You know, former President Donald Trump just said the other day, you know, whether in defense of his choice or the lack of it, the choice of vice president is not what matters, so in a certain way. To the extent that former President Trump has undermined his own campaign’s efforts to pursue Harris’ picks, he has gone out and said that part of the campaign doesn’t matter.

Trump claims vice presidential choice doesn’t matter:
Trump completely abandoned Vance and said that the choice of vice president was meaningless. “Historically, the vice president has no impact on elections. Almost no impact.” pic.twitter.com/0rDkP2WmsR

Trump cannot think strategically and cannot think beyond himself. Trump chose Vance because he believed he had won the election and that Vance would help him improve the Republican base.
Donald Trump never wondered if J.D. Vance was capable of serving as president if necessary.
Whatever criticism the Trump campaign has of Harris’ choice, the Harris campaign can respond with the former president’s own words.
Trump has no strategy. We’ve reached a point in this campaign where Trump is failing and self-sabotaging.
Trump tried to make excuses for his poor running mate choice, but instead he set the table for Kamala Harris and the Democrats.
