Trump panicked and had to hold a last-minute rally in North Carolina, where officials forced him to pay in advance.
Blue Ridge Public Radio reports:
City of Asheville confirms it received $82,247.60 from Trump campaign ahead of former president’s campaign campaign event in Asheville on Wednesday.
The deposit will cover two days’ rent at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium, a city-owned building at Harrah’s Cherokee Center in downtown Asheville part of the complex. The auditorium is the smaller of the complex’s two venues and can accommodate up to 2,431 spectators, according to the venue’s website.
Of that amount, $22,500 is rent for the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium event space, according to city spokesperson Kim Miller.
Local officials asked Trump Pay in advance for additional staffing, venue security, crowd management fees and other expenses.
Trump’s campaign gathered for a last-second rally as their support is rapidly declining and they fall behind Vice President Kamala Harris. Trump’s original plan was not to campaign or hold any events until after the Democratic National Convention next week.
Donald Trump has racked up huge balances, costing local taxpayers in some cases totaling hundreds of thousands of dollars for rallies across the country. When Trump gets tough on local governments, people in local communities have to cut services or pay higher taxes to make up for the influx of the deadbeat ex-president into their towns.
Hopefully more towns will follow Asheville’s lead and ask Trump to pay in advance for his rallies.
