Former President Trump on Monday named freshman Sen. J.D. Vance as his 2024 running mate.
Although Vance has been a U.S. senator since 2023, he has developed a close relationship with Hollywood when he published his 2016 memoir “Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis.”
Vance’s memoir was picked up by Netflix and adapted into a film of the same name in 2020. Starring.

Basso plays Vance in the Netflix film. Basso, born in December 1994, is known for his roles in Super 8, The Kings of Summer and Netflix’s The Nightmare.
According to IMDb, Basso described Vance’s life as a Yale Law student who receives an urgent call requiring him to return to his hometown in Ohio and confront “three generations of family history and his own future.”
Amy Adams as Bev
Amy Adams plays JD’s mother, Beverly “Bev” Vance, in the Netflix film. Bev, a mother of two, struggled with drug addiction.
In 2020, Adams spoke to Entertainment Weekly about how she prepared for the role, which included speaking with Vance’s family and Bev herself.
“I think when I play someone you know, he’s going to see that, and I’m glad you’re going to see something deeper than the mistakes that she made, because that’s very important to me,” Adams said told the media at the time.

Adams said the pressure “terrified” her, but she was ultimately glad she decided to take on the role.
“As difficult as it was to embody this character, it was an exhilarating experience,” she told the outlet at the time.
Glenn Close – Grandma
Glenn Close plays Bev’s mother, Vance’s “grandma,” who played an important role in JD’s upbringing.
In 2020, she was also interviewed by Entertainment Weekly about the unrecognizable transformation she went through to accurately interpret the role in “Hillbilly Elegy.”
“I wanted to change my face a little bit, mostly for me as an actor because I didn’t want to be distracted by knowing that was Glenn Close’s face,” she told the outlet.
In the interview, Close echoed Adam’s sentiments about the importance of accurately portraying Vance’s family members.
“You’re defining for yourself a whole psychological and emotional landscape, and as an actor I don’t want to repeat myself, I get into it slowly, step by step. It’s one of the great experiences I’ve had in my career, ” Cross told the media.

Haley Bennett – Lindsay Vance
Haley Bennett plays JD’s sister Lindsay Vance in “Hillbilly Elegy.”
According to Encyclopedia Britannica, Bev gave birth to Vance’s older sister just weeks after graduating from high school.
Haley is an American actress who has appeared in films such as The Girl on the Train, Swallows, Music & Lyrics, and The Equalizer.
Freida Pinto as Usha
Freida Pinto plays Vance’s wife Usha Chilukuri in “Hillbilly Elegy.” According to People magazine, Usha and JD met while attending Yale Law School and got married the year after graduating in 2014.
The couple has three children together: two sons, Ewan and Vivek, and a daughter, Mirabel.
Freida is an Indian actress born in Mumbai, Maharashtra. She has appeared in films such as “Slumdog Millionaire,” “War for the Planet of the Apes,” “Excel” and “Invasion.”
