Axios reports:
Relations between the Republican rivals remain frosty, but Trump may choose Haley if he is convinced she can help him win the presidency, avoid possible jail time and pay tens of millions of dollars in legal bills if he loses.
Republicans close to both campaigns believe it is in the mutual interest for Haley and Trump to reconcile, despite their bitter battles in the Republican primary and disagreements on major issues.
Trump is trying to offset a fundraising disadvantage relative to President Joe Biden and pay legal fees. Haley, meanwhile, has deep ties to donors who are wary of the former president.
This needs to be called what it is. Trump offered Haley the running mate spot as long as she paid his legal fees and helped him avoid jail. The question is, what would Haley get out of such a deal?
Former ambassador Haley will be blamed if the November election fails. Her political career and any future presidential bid will be destroyed, and she will be saddled with the responsibility of Donald Trump.
The Trump campaign appears to be spreading the story in an attempt to bring Haley and her supporters back into the fold, an acknowledgment of the former president’s efforts to unite the Republican Party.
Trump has offered to sell U.S. energy policy to oil companies for $1 billion. Apparently he’s so desperate for cash that he’s willing to sell the vice presidential spot to the Republican nominee to help pay for his legal bills. Running for president is his only source of income, and he can’t afford legal fees if he doesn’t run or take office.
Things look worse within the Republican Party than imagined, and everything seems to be on sale to pay Trump’s bills.
