Any blow to Trump from the assassination attempt has evaporated as new polls put his approval rating at 36%.
ABC News:
Forty-four percent of independents have a favorable view of Harris, up from 28% a week ago. Her negative rating among independents currently stands at 40%, down slightly from 47% last week.

Trump’s favorability rating dropped slightly from 40% in the week after the assassination attempt and the Republican National Convention to 36% in the latest poll. 27% of independents support Trump, down from 35% last week.
Trump’s approval ratings are back where they have been for much of the past few years. Donald Trump is not a popular candidate, and when voters are given the option to choose a candidate they prefer, they choose another option, bringing Trump back to his baseline approval rating of around 37% .
36% of supporters are die-hard Trump supporters.
In the coming days and weeks, watch to see if Trump can push his approval rating closer to 40%. It’s more likely that his campaign will try to lower Kamala Harris’s support because Trump can’t win a high-turnout election against a popular opponent.
Republicans need low-turnout base elections to give Trump a chance.
Trump was shot and killed, he chose his running mate and held a convention, but his approval rate still failed to exceed 50%.
Donald Trump is the most unpopular major party nominee in modern American political history.
