Twitch abruptly banned one of its biggest stars in 2020 – Herschel “Guy” Beahm, known for his “disrespectful Doctor” persona – without any explanation. Now, four years after Beam was permanently banned, two former Twitch employees have come forward to describe the events they say led to his removal from the platform.
A former Twitch employee who requested anonymity because of the potential risk to his career said edge Beahm used Twitch’s now-defunct messaging system Whispers to exchange messages with minors and initiate conversations about meeting at TwitchCon. The employee worked on Twitch’s Trust and Safety team when the 2020 ban was implemented.

Although Connors did not explicitly mention Beam by name, it is understood that the anchor was the subject of the post. Beam’s ban comes shortly after Twitch updated its sexual harassment policy to punish violators with permanent bans.
Beam has denied Connors’ allegations. “The matter has been resolved, no wrongdoing was admitted, and they paid the full contract,” he posted on “I did nothing wrong, all of this was investigated and resolved, nothing illegal was done, no wrongdoing was found, and I was paid,” he wrote.
Four years ago this week, news of Beam’s ban came as a shock. Beam was one of Twitch’s most popular stars at the time, with about 4 million followers, and he had just signed an exclusive, seven-figure, two-year deal with the platform. A year after his ban, Beahm said he is suing Twitch for monetary damages and revealed that he finally knows the reason for the platform’s ban. Beam, however, refused to say what it was. A year later, the dispute was resolved, with Beahm saying: “I have resolved my legal dispute with Twitch. Neither party admitted any wrongdoing.”
