A scuffle broke out Saturday on a beach north of the Santa Monica Pier, sending two people to the hospital with minor injuries, officials said.
Santa Monica Police Watch Commander David Hodgson said five people were detained but have not been charged with a crime after a “fight with each other” broke out on the beach near the waterline near Lifeguard Tower 14. any crime.
“The two groups started attacking each other,” he said. “They got into this big argument.”
When police arrived, they found a man with non-life-threatening injuries consistent with stab wounds. Another man appeared to have a broken ankle. Both were taken to hospital.
Five other people were detained. Hodgson said police were “still trying to establish what happened.”
He stressed that there was no threat to the public.
About a month ago, in late May, two German tourists were stabbed and a third was injured in an apparently unprovoked attack near the Santa Monica Pier. In this case, a suspect was arrested.
