“There is absolutely no place for this kind of hateful and discriminatory behavior in the game. Not only are these actions unacceptable, they go against the values of respect and inclusion that we uphold as an organization. U.S. Soccer stands firmly against racism in all forms and will continue to support our players.
The statement comes after a difficult night in the United States
Tim Weah was sent off in the 18th minute for punching Roderick Miller in the back of the head, and the Americans played shorthanded for much of the game.

He issued an apology after the game.
“Today I let my team and my country down,” Weah said. “This moment of frustration has irreversible consequences, and for that, I deeply apologize to my teammates, coaches, family and fans. According to the Associated Press, U.S. Soccer reported the abuse to CONMEBOL, the organizer of the South American tournament. The USSF did not disclose the list of players who were the subject of online hate.

“Our organization is constantly working to develop a new culture that eliminates expressions of racism, offensive content on social media and all forms of violence or discrimination,” CONMEBOL said in a statement. “We condemn it everywhere and everywhere. intolerant attitudes, especially from those who hide behind their social media accounts.”
