Hi friends! Welcome to installer Issue 44, Your Best Guide edge-The best thing in the world. (If you’re new here, welcome, we’re glad you found us, and you can also installer front page.
I’ve been writing this week Why I love Boox Palmaread about hot dog contest and The history of Markdown and The future of streamingwatch Xiao Leixi and Federer There’s still plenty of football to play (it’s a very sporty week) and mourning the end of the season long list podcast, develop a strange obsession salt water taffyretesting the Apple Vision Pro, and trying every way I could find to make delicious iced coffee at home.
I’ve also got you covered with some great new Bluetooth speakers, new seasons of Hulu’s best shows, an app that converts everything to audio, and more.
Also, quick house news: None installer next week. It’s a holiday in the States (and my birthday), so I’ll be grilling stuff outside and getting sunburned. But please keep sending in suggestions and we’ll have a big one coming soon.
(As always, the best part installer It’s your ideas and techniques. What would you like to know more about? What are some great tips that you know that everyone else should know? fall
- UE Wonderboom 4. A few weeks ago I said the best speaker advice I could give you was to buy a UE Wonderboom. I stand by this, especially now that there is a new product that charges via USB-C! new YongxingWith a built-in carabiner and some extra sonic oomph, it’s very tempting, but you can’t beat it for $100.
- beat pills. More new speakers! I have a weakness for beautiful portable sound systems, and the new Pill looks great. Chris Welch likes the sound, and I like the wired audio capabilities and the USB-C port for charging other devices. Beats works great here, even if I’m still Wonderboomin’.
- edge apparel. I really try not to entrust edge There’s so much stuff here, but I’m really excited about the new stuff we’ve been working on. I particularly like the hoodie, and the (finally the right size) mug. Reorganizing our store has been a fun project and I hope you enjoy the stuff too!
- “The Death of Followers and the Future of Online Creativity”. I always love listening to Jack Conte talk about the internet, and stumbled upon this SXSW talk where he basically explained how “following” and “subscribing” changed the world, and how we need to change the world again.
- Eleven Lab Reader. ElevenLabs does AI voice better than anything I’ve seen and built this iPhone app (apparently Android is coming soon) in a very smart way. You just share any article, book, or PDF to the app, select a voice, and it reads it aloud.
- Blackmagic Camera for Android. Android’s lack of good third-party camera apps is really annoying, but this is a good one with plenty of manual controls and instant feedback. It’s currently only available on a few phones, but I’ll use it when I can.
- concept website. It’s a small but very clever thing: create a Notion page and publish it to the web with one click. If you want a one page personal website or a quick and easy event page. This is much easier than anything else.
- Bear Season 3. I agree with everyone who is annoyed that Hulu dropped this season suddenly instead of dropping it one week at a time – drag it out and give us time to get addicted to it! That said, I’ll be watching every second of it this weekend. Then I re-watched all three seasons as soon as I finished it.
- Figma slideshow. Figma is getting some big updates across the board this week: a redesign, tons of AI content, and more. But the slideshow is particularly cool. It’s a combination of a design tool and a presentation tool that looks much more interesting than PowerPoint.
Screen sharing
I think first Sarah Dickey The video I watched was her perfect explanation How to Make a Casey Neistat Vlog. (BTW, that title is like a perfect time capsule from 2016, an era I still miss on YouTube.) Since then, she’s become one of my favorite creators, talking about everything from cameras to ideas to cars to… everything in life. Recently, as a new parent myself, it was so cool to see her going through so many of the same things that were going on in my family.
I asked Sara to share her home screen with us, curious as to how she balances life and her creative stuff. Both are very demanding, and we both only have one home screen, you know? It turns out it’s a little bit of both – but mostly life stuff.
Here’s Sara’s home screen, along with some information about the apps she uses and why:
Telephone: iPhone 15 Pro.
wallpaper: My wallpaper always has cute baby photos on rotation. She is all my life now. I mean, look at her…right? I love widgets, so I’m always keeping an eye on hot happenings and weather conditions front and center.
app: Phone, Clock, Settings, Camera, Photos, Drive, Amazon, Blackmagic Camera, YouTube, Tesla, DoorDash, Apple Notes, Google Authenticator, Vivint, WhatsApp, Nanit, Messages, Hatch Baby, Safari, Gmail.
My home screen is reserved for apps I use multiple times a day.
The To-Do Widget comes from the Things app – all my to-dos disappear 🙂 But at least they’re super organized.
I also asked Sarah to share something that interests her right now. This is what she sent back:
- black magic camera. An amazing camera app that allows you to capture Apple Logs in a reasonable file size. (After logging in to Apple Camera to take pictures, it will be left Lots of ProRes HQ archives.
- Apple Notes. I recently downsized my team and have been obsessed with the speed and simplicity of Notes over Notion, which I used religiously. Now, Notion is only used on projects I’m working on that require other people to contribute.
- Nanette. The best baby monitor ever. This feature-packed app makes overpriced hardware worth it. PiP works perfectly and you can monitor baby monitor audio in the background while listening to podcasts or music.
- I’m really into 3D printing right now. It led me to a lot of “maker” YouTube channels. I’m currently watching the drama The Test of Adam Savage channel.

This is the latest novel Star Wars: The High Republic storyline, these are still some of my favorite books of the last 10 years, especially the Star Wars universe. They are set hundreds of years before the movies and I would recommend them to any fan. – Justin
“Start marinating with marinated pancakes and capicola sauce Umai Dry Vacuum Bag. I don’t have a good place to marinate and dry meat at home in the city, so it’s nice to be able to do it in the refrigerator. Bonus: I get to use the new vacuum sealer my family bought me for Father’s Day! ——Timothy

“I can’t stop playing Deep Rock Galaxy: Survivors On the computer. In this roguelike game, you play as a dwarf, mining precious minerals on an alien planet and fighting swarms of bugs. It’s a lot of fun, easy to pick up, and the weapon and skill system is very satisfying to navigate. ——Abhimanyu
“Not long ago, I went through the same journey as you: ‘I want a lightweight mobile phone, but…what if I turned my iPhone into a Light Phone? My favorite option is to build my own small parts. This is a very powerful application that allows you to build your own widgets. It’s not intuitive and it’s a lot more powerful than I need, but it’s great to build your own lightweight phone. – Tom
“I’m halfway through Adrian Tchaikovsky’s new science fiction novel, service model, a fascinating story about artificial intelligence and our reliance on technology. Can’t let go! – Sighing Jinx

My wife and I sit down and watch something together almost every night before we go to bed. Sometimes we talk about the whole thing, sometimes we watch a show, and sometimes we just sit and stare at our phones the whole time. All three ways are great! I doubt many people have their own closing show, but let me tell you ours: great food truck competition on the Food Network. (Okay, now Max, but you know what I mean.) It’s like cooking show meets Amazing competition, there are 16 seasons in total – Season 17 starts this weekend! – It’s all silly and wonderful. My wife and I also had fun coming up with hundreds of food truck ideas while watching the show.
If you need a new show you can watch forever without too much brain drain, check out food trucks. (If you have any other similar shows I should watch, please let me know. We have a problem with food trucks.)
Have a happy holiday season to all who celebrate. See you in two weeks!
