UFC Fight Night was set to take place in Denver on Saturday night, but the main event was almost canceled.
Tracy Cortez was scheduled to face Rose Namajunas in a women’s flyweight bout, but when she initially weighed in, the scale wasn’t on her side.
The weight limit for the women’s flyweight division is 126 pounds, but the Scottsdale native weighed in about a half-pound over.

As time wore on and there weren’t many options for shaving off the last bits of weight, she had an epiphany: Get out the scissors…literally.
Cortez cut off his hair and weighed himself exactly 126 pounds.

According to ESPN, Najunas weighs 124.75 pounds.
Cortez was not originally in the main event. Namajunas was originally supposed to face Macy Barber, but she had to withdraw from the bout due to ongoing health issues.
Cortez is on an 11-fight winning streak after losing her first professional fight, but she is currently on the losing end against a 12-6 Namajunas team from Milwaukee.

Rose is ranked 11th in the flyweight rankings and all nine of her wins have come via decision. Her only failure was surrender. Namajunas is ranked sixth in the weight class and seventh in the pound-for-pound rankings.
There are six fights on Saturday’s card, two weeks before UFC 304 takes place in England.
