How many Boom brand speakers are too many? Can such a thing happen? Ultimate Ears seems to be on a mission to find out. The company just announced the $249.99 Everboom — now the sixth speaker in its lineup. In both size and price, this product falls somewhere between the Megaboom speaker and the $299.99 Epicboom released late last year.
The Everboom has typical UE features: IP67 (dust and water resistant), it floats if you put it in a pool or lake, and it comes with a removable carabiner. There’s an Outdoor Boost mode that adjusts the sound profile for open environments while also improving bass response. Battery life is up to 20 hours, and NFC pairing is easy, but that’s where the feature list ends.
In addition to the new speakers, Ultimate Ears has also updated the Boom, Wonderboom and Megaboom. All of these are available in new colors and, more importantly, they are at last – Yes, that word is well-deserved here – moving to USB-C. Hallelujah. Boom and Megaboom are getting “enhanced deep bass radiators to unleash even louder sound.” Wonderboom is getting a new feature: a podcast mode tweaked “to enhance listening to your favorite hosts and stories.”
UE’s new and old products use a new software technology called amplifiers. “When users tap the speakerphone button and speak into their phone, their voice is projected through the speaker — perfect for calling people to the dance floor, belting out a few bars, or hearing Their voices echoed through the mountains. I was already worried about how it would play out on the New York subway, but maybe I was just assuming the worst about people.
Along with other hardware upgrades to the Everboom and other UE speakers, the lineup now looks like this:
