A 21-year-old University of Southern California student was found critically injured in her apartment in downtown Los Angeles on Tuesday night. Los Angeles police said she was the victim of an apparent assault.
The young woman was found in an upscale apartment building in the 1200 block of Hill Street around 10 p.m. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition, according to Los Angeles Police Chief Kelly Muniz.
The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the incident. Law enforcement sources familiar with the investigation said the woman’s parents were concerned after not hearing from her. She was discovered by a family member who went to visit. The sources were not authorized to speak publicly about the investigation, but they said the woman suffered head injuries and traumatic injuries.
Investigators are conducting a forensic scrub of the apartment, talking to neighbors and checking surrounding video security systems.
Authorities did not say whether there was any sign of forced entry.
The building is described as a modern, secure apartment complex with one bedroom renting for $2,600 per month.
