There is no denying that conservative scholar and historian Victor Davis Hanson is one of America’s brightest minds. He understands not only right-wing politics but also progressive left-wing politics.
As Trump continues to rise in polls where Republicans shouldn’t be competitive, Hansen sees growing panic on the left, reflected in cable news segments and interviews with prominent Democrats, as well as left-wing activists behavior in the streets.
In a lengthy post on Twitter/X this week, Hansen outlined and analyzed what the left is going through right now and what they will do when Trump becomes more inevitable.

What is driving their current growing hysteria?
1) The left believes they may be headed for a historic 1972 McGovern-style or 1980 Carter-style blowout. It fears that at this late date, it will be powerless to do anything about the terror instilled by Joe Biden’s escalating dementia, or by the specter of the president or Kamala Harris, who continues to serve as vice president.
2) It knows that after four successful years as a novice first-term president, Trump is now savvier — and more likely and capable of reversing the entire Biden four-year disaster, thereby enjoying a more successful second term semester.
3) It fears that everything it does is to destroy democracy – the Russia collusion hoax, the Russian disinformation laptop farce, two first-term impeachments after Republicans lost the House, the Senate’s rejection of former President Trump as a private citizen The trial, an effort to knock Trump off state ballots and five criminal and civil trials aimed at bankrupting a major presidential candidate and preventing him from campaigning, could send a boomerang to the left.
So it panics that its unconstitutional efforts to destroy Trump will apparently be used against itself — because it knows that if it returns to power, it will pursue its enemies in exactly the same, unscrupulous manner it did before. Destroy Trump. That is, they undermined norms and established dangerous new precedents that they simply believed, given their Jacobin nature, had to backfire against them.

Hansen said that as Biden declines, he will become more desperate and try to pander more, which will be counterproductive.
