Instead, he embarked on his next big, crazy business venture: launching a hotel designed specifically for movie producers.
The All-Cinema Hotel in Peachtree City, Ga., offers 27 different accommodations and includes “state-of-the-art on-site post-production facilities, creating a collaborative environment for filmmakers to edit, refine and present their work,” according to Coppola says the website says. There’s also a small theater in the hotel accommodation, so watching an occasional movie is probably part of the deal. The all-movie hotel, which will open to the public on July 25, is part of Coppola’s existing hotel network, The Family Coppola Hideaways, which currently includes other hotels in Belize, Guatemala, Argentina and Italy.
“I lived here for two years and fell in love with Peachtree City while filming Metropolis,” Coppola wrote on his website. “We are here for filmmakers and movie lovers and for all Arcadia guests around the world to create a completely unique place to enjoy this new Arcadia and rub shoulders with the filmmakers at work!”
In other words, it sounds like even if you’re not a filmmaker, you can stay at Coppola’s new hotel and, as he puts it, rub shoulders with the director or crew who might be staying there.
For interested filmmakers, the hotel has a range of film production facilities, including an “editing wing” with independent production and sound editing suites, as well as a theater available for screenings. Coppla’s website notes that the location also includes an “additional Ethernet patch panel, allowing you to add localized servers and ports out to all rooms/suites within the hotel.”
The filmmaker’s new venture appears to be a product of his time directing Megacity. “When I don’t want to think about the movie, I think about the hotel, and when I don’t want to think about the hotel, I think about the movie,” Coppola said in a promotional video.
Coppola is an unconventional businessman, to say the least. In addition to family-owned wineries and hotels, Coppola has previously founded a cannabis company, a literary journal, a restaurant and cafe, and resorts. As mentioned before, his latest photo, Megacityalso a self-financed work that polarized audiences and critics, but was undeniably original, much like Coppola.
