Vitamix blenders are being recalled after dozens of reports of injuries caused by the container and blade base of the powerful blender. In total, the brand is recalling more than 570,000 blender parts. Although the blender itself appears to be safe to use, only defective parts pose a hazard.
Last week, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a notice recalling Vitamix Ascent and Venturist series mixing containers and blade bases, noting that “the container may separate from the blade base, exposing the blade and posing a cut hazard to consumers.” So far, the problem appears to be only Limited to 8 oz and 20 oz containers.
The recall follows more than two dozen reports of cuts caused by exposed blades, which occur when the blade base and container separate without notice. According to the CPSC, the defective blade base and mixing container may have been sold separately.
Vitamix asks consumers to repair blender parts
As of this writing, there are no refunds or replacements for defective parts. Instead, those who own Ascent and Venturist blenders “should immediately stop using the recalled 8-ounce and 20-ounce blending containers and blade bases and contact Vitamix to obtain a repair kit, which includes a protective plastic guard that attaches to the blade base and additional description label.
Vitamix said in a statement: “Vitamix’s top priority is the safety of its customers. The Ascent model retails for up to $750, and the Venturer V1200 retails for up to $550. These blenders are sold on Vitamix.com, Amazon, Walmart, Costco and hundreds of other retailers.
