Montana Democratic Sen. Jon Tester admitted that he owns at least nine vehicles, trying to push back against the Senate Republican campaign arm that accused the Montana farmer of driving a certain type of vehicle in Washington, D.C.
The National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) issued a press release about the Montana farmer titled “Bombshell: Jon Tester Drives a Prius.”
Tester reacted in a fiery statement, calling those who wrote the headline “a bunch of fools.”
“What a bunch of jacks,” Tester told the Huffington Post reporter, before going on to name all the other types of vehicles he owns.

Tester went on to say that he is “going to spend $10,000 this week on diesel to fill the bulk tanks I use to grow crops in the fields. Is that okay now?”
In addition to the press release, NRSC Communications Director Mike Berg shared footage of Tester getting into his red Prius and a Washington Post article about Tester writing in his 2020 memoir that he purchased a used Prius and drove it around Washington, D.C. Screenshot of the article
Tester’s defense of driving a Prius sparked more attacks on social media, prompting his PR director to respond on X.
“The NRSC has its finger on the pulse of Montana and is speaking out against Jon Tester because he and his son share a hobby of restoring old cars,” said communications director Monica Robinson.
NRSC spokesperson Maggie Abboud said Tester’s response “speaks volumes about how much of a swamp creature Jon Tester has become.”
