West Spotlight: Prospects take center stage as high school season begins
There are certain times of the year when the spotlight on recruiting shines brightly, and the beginning of the season is exactly that. Let’s continue this series with a look at some of the top prospects who are sure to take the spotlight, featuring five prospects from across the West.
Rumor has it in some Southern California circles that Curry is severely underrated and should strive to be the top cornerback in the state rankings. Lancaster (Calif.) Quartz Hill is off the beaten path and doesn’t play an elite schedule, but making the trek to see him again this season could be crucial in seeing if Curry can back up that claim.
Texas A&M was absolutely impressive at Under Armor training camp in Los Angeles this offseason, but Curry wasn’t there often due to track and other circumstances.
Still, the four-star cornerback is highly respected. There’s elite speed there, excellent coverage ability and the athleticism to step up to the ball or get it out there. We hope to see more of Curry on the regional and national stages this offseason. That’s not the case, but he’s still probably one of the best cornerbacks in the area and the country. This season will be crucial to see how he performs.

Five-star running backs are rare, especially in a world where the position is rarely selected in the first round of the NFL draft. Since rankings are tied to expected college performance and draft position, keeping a five-star running back means that player has to be really special.
The Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei standout rushed for more than 1,000 yards in his sophomore season and was the leading back last season but was tied with Georgia signees Nate Frazier and Arjun Bryant Split rushing, so his numbers dropped slightly.
Davidson, who chose the University of Oregon over the University of Alabama this summer after parting ways with Ohio State, weighed in at about 230 pounds this summer, so losing a little weight is key, but he’s in Opponent five stars and position coaches this summer Brandon Jacobs Compare Davidson to Le’Veon Bell.
A big senior season could help solidify his five-star rankings.

Longstreet is coming off a big junior season at new school Corona (Calif.) Centennial University, but because of the way coach Matt Logan runs his system, it’s virtually guaranteed success and Lots of offense.
Then, the Texas A&M four-star quarterback performed well in the Elite 11, putting in some impressive drills. The question heading into his senior season — and hopefully an All-Star game — is where he should be at the top of the national rankings, especially at quarterback.
As we’ve learned over the past few months, there are some very special quarterbacks in this class, and it’s likely to be a top-heavy group in the national rankings. Longstreet could fall into that group, and his senior season could solidify that.

There is no doubt that Meadows is one of the best-looking receivers in the 2025 class and he plays on arguably the best team in the country in Las Vegas (Nev.) Bishop Gorman. But he was largely sidelined this offseason after taking a few catches with a hamstring injury in the Battle of Miami championship game.
Meadows is a huge outside target with excellent hands and has committed to LSU instead of Notre Dame in recent weeks, but he will need more production in his senior season as the top receivers The hands can take over and dominate the game.
We haven’t seen that from Meadows yet, but he should have every opportunity to excel in his senior season as Gorman has a legitimate schedule against some great teams.

Projecting offensive linemen can sometimes be difficult because if a rookie is maxed out physically, he may impress at the high school level, but other players will catch up to him in college and beyond.
At 6-foot-5, 285 pounds, Powell is not at his physical limit yet, has great athleticism on the offensive line, and has the toughness to really shine when he gets over 300 pounds at Wisconsin.
There may be no better program to develop offensive linemen than Madison. The Phoenix (Ariz.) Brophy Prep four-star standout has all the tools and potential to be truly special, so over time, many NFL offensive linemen have a frame like Powell’s, so from a shooting standpoint Look, he’s definitely one to watch.
