A shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, left four people dead and nine others injured.
Officials identified the deceased as students Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, and teachers Christina Irimi and Richard Aspinwall.
The 14-year-old suspect, Colt Gray, was arrested and will be charged as an adult.
Here’s what we know so far about the victims of the attack.
Mason Schermerhorn
Schermerhorn was one of two 14-year-old children killed. Friends of his mother told The New York Times that he had recently started working at Apalachee.
He is described as having a relaxed personality and enjoys reading, playing video games and visiting Walt Disney World.
Doug Kilburn told the newspaper that Schermerhorn “had a positive attitude about everything.”
Louis Briscoe described hearing the news of Schermerhorn’s death from the boy’s mother, commenting: “No one should have to go through this kind of pain.”
Christian Angulo
Lisette Angulo said she was the sister of the other 14-year-old victim of the shooting.
On a GoFundMe page set up to raise money for the funeral, she said her brother was “a very good kid, very sweet, very loving”. She went on to say the boy was “loved by so many people” and described her heartbreak over her loss.
According to Atlanta’s Fox 5 , classmates remembered him as funny and with a “cold” attitude. A friend who said the two had been close since middle school said he was “in denial” after hearing about the fatal shooting.
Christina Irimi
Cristina Irimi was one of two teachers killed in the shooting.
The 53-year-old man was listed as a math teacher on the Apalachee High School site.
Students described her as patient and caring, Atlanta’s Fox 5 reported.
Richard Aspinwall
A second maths teacher, Richard Aspinwall, 39, was also killed.
According to US media reports, he is also the school’s American football defensive coordinator. He was praised by his colleagues in the sporting world.
Nearby Mountain View High School identified Aspinwall as a former teacher and coach at the school and said its “thoughts and prayers” were with his family.
Brandon Gill, the football coach at nearby Buford High School, wrote on social media that Aspinwall was a “great man” who “would do anything for anyone.” He added that he was an “amazing husband, father, teacher and coach.”
Several injured in Georgia high school shooting
In addition to the four fatalities, eight students and one teacher were injured.
The teacher was identified by his daughter as David Phoenix. He plays a role in curricular assistance, according to the school’s website.
His daughter said he had surgery after being shot in the hip and she felt he was “very, very lucky” to have survived.
No information has been released about the eight injured children.
Police said all those injured in the attack were expected to recover.
