Think about expectations.Nine years ago, you might have been released one of the best movies ever. It won a ton of Oscars, grossed a lot at the box office, and has grown in respect and awe ever since. Now, you have to go back. Not only that world; That story and those specific characters.
This is the mission set by George Miller Furiosa: Mad Max Saga, his follow-up to his iconic Mad Max: Fury Road. recent, io9 had the pleasure of sitting down with legendary filmmaker and asked if he felt he had achieved the same standard angry and how he thought people would react to it. His answer was interesting. You can watch it below and read it later.
“I hope so,” Miller told io9 when asked if he lived up to expectations. “You don’t know. The truth is, it’s been really fun for me. It’s one of the exciting things. Let One of the reasons I keep at it is that you tell a story and you bring your best instincts and skills to the process, and then you tell it and then you put it out into the world and see how people take it. It. You don’t know. You can’t predict it. I find that to be the case all the time.
Miller explains why he’s fascinated by people’s reactions to his films. “Ever since the first movie I made, I’ve been very interested in telling stories,” he said. “It’s not just ‘How do we tell stories?'” but “Why do we tell stories?” Why are we innately drawn to stories? Why are stories so important to our search for a way to live as individuals, subcultures and communities, and even as a human race? This remains my motivation to continue the process.
Then, in typical Miller fashion, he digs deeper and taps into his incredible wealth of knowledge. “As you probably know, I greatly value the wisdom of Joseph Campbell,” Miller said. “[He] Basically, we put all this effort into sorting out all the stories in the world and finding commonalities across all time and space, going back to the earliest traditions of storytelling on all levels, whether they be mythology, the great religions, fairy tales Stories, whether they are modern stories, or all levels of storytelling.
“Basically, the Venn diagrams overlap to some extent,” he continued. “So he made a comment. He observed the Swahili storytellers in East Africa, when they told their stories, when they finished their stories, they would say ‘the story has been told.’ If it’s not good, it’s my fault because I’m the storyteller. If it’s good, it belongs to everyone. That’s what makes this point in the story one of the most interesting parts of it. I’m done. I’ll probably only see this movie once or twice with a paying audience. Then I wanted to see what people thought of it, good or bad. They interpret what the movie gives them or gets out of it based on their own worldview. It used to take basically up to 10 years.at first mad max It took me ten years to understand what it really meant to people. Now this is accelerating. So that’s really interesting to me.
