Los Angeles police arrested a man Friday in connection with a road rage melee at Los Angeles International Airport that knocked an elderly woman to the ground and left her unconscious.
Jasan Gives Sr. was arrested just after 10 a.m. near Chesterfield Place in South Los Angeles by members of the Los Angeles Police Department and Airport Police Task Force.
According to online records, he was detained by the Los Angeles Police Department’s 77th Street Division on suspicion of felony assault, with bail set at $50,000. Givens is scheduled to make his first court appearance on July 12.
Police said a preliminary investigation showed Givens, 38, was involved in a heated argument with another man before the fight on May 31.
Video of the surveillance footage shows a man, whom police identified as Givens, chasing a shirtless man on the sidewalk and continuing into the street outside baggage claim. There, an old woman stood, her luggage being unloaded from the car.
The video shows Givens and another man then slamming into the woman, with Givens attacking the other man from behind. The woman was knocked to the ground, face down.
Two men can then be seen wrestling each other on the ground behind the car, while the woman lies motionless next to them while others move to check on her.
The woman, who has not been identified, was knocked unconscious and taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said. She has since been released. There are no further details on the extent of her injuries.
As Givens fled the scene, KTLA-TV Channel 5 reports Another man involved in the fight has been arrested, according to police.
“The most egregious thing … was the failure of both men to render aid after this incident occurred,” LAPD Det. Scott Danielson told the station. “Our victim could have been your mother or your grandmother.”
