Tavon Austin, who played 113 NFL games with four teams from 2013-21, officially announced his retirement on Tuesday.
Austin, 34, last played for the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021, catching 24 passes for 213 yards and a touchdown in seven games. He spent part of the 2022 season on the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad and was out of the league last season.
The eighth overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft spent his first five seasons with the St. Louis/Los Angeles Rams before moving on to the Dallas Cowboys (2018-19), Green Bay Packers (2020) and Jaguars Team.
A multi-threat on offense and on special teams, Austin not only caught 244 passes for 2,239 yards and 16 touchdowns in his career, but also rushed for 1,361 yards and 10 touchdowns. He scored three punt return touchdowns in his first three seasons in the NFL, including a 98-yard receiving touchdown as a rookie.
“No matter how hard you work or how much you want something, sometimes God has other plans,” Austin wrote on Instagram. “I’m not sure I’m ready to give up football, it’s the most challenging I’ve ever done But after an incredible decade, I’m officially retiring from the NFL.
“First of all, I want to thank God for making my childhood dream a reality. God’s blessings on me are immeasurable! I want to thank my fans who cheer me on and stay with me through the ups and downs. Without you, I wouldn’t be Have a career.”
