A shooting in Yellowstone National Park left a suspect dead and a park ranger injured, the National Park Service (NPS) said in a statement Thursday afternoon.
The NPS said the deceased suspect, who has not yet been identified, was threatening with a gun at the park’s Canyon Village complex Wednesday night and into early Thursday when rangers were called to the scene.
The suspect exchanged gunfire with the ranger, resulting in the suspect’s death.
A Yellowstone law enforcement park ranger was injured. The NPS said the ranger was in stable condition and was being treated at a nearby area hospital.

An area around the Canyon Inn complex remains closed to the investigation. The complex is located in northwest Wyoming and is popular with visitors to the historic park.
The FBI is leading the investigation with support from NPS agents.
